Miss Oklahoma USA 2O11 - Kaitlyn Smith
TIB - Who is Kaitlyn Smith? Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Kaitlyn Hmmm…Kaitlyn Smith is a big sister, a daughter to two amazing parents, an outdoor lover, and a compassionate person. I love summertime, snow cones, watching movies and my two puppies. I moved around a lot as a kid and finally settled in Norman, Oklahoma where I attend the University of Oklahoma. Going to college so far from my family, who live in Arizona, was one of the hardest and yet the best thing I’ve ever done. I have really bad anxiety, but thankfully competing in Miss Oklahoma and preparing for Miss USA has taught me a lot about myself and I’ve gotten a thousand times better about managing it. Most importantly, my life has been full of surprises and I am so far from where I thought I’d be at 22; but it’s all for the better and I wouldn’t change a single thing!
TIB - Tell us something that will make us remember you.
Kaitlyn I’ll surprise you :)
TIB - Can you tell us 3 things that you think are sooo typical Oklahoma?
Kaitlyn University of Oklahoma football, country music, and friendly people!
TIB - How will pageant competitions help you develop as a person?
Kaitlyn Preparing for pageants is such a challenge! It’s different than anything else I’ve ever done. You really get to know yourself as a person and who you are and what you stand for. It makes you a stronger person physically, mentally, and emotionally. Pageants also help you develop as a person by helping to build lifelong habits like working out, staying active, eating well, and keeping up with the latest news!
TIB - What do you think is the difference between the Miss America pageant and the Miss USA pageant?
Kaitlyn I think one of the main differences is how bold the Miss USA system is. The Miss Universe Organization is not afraid to push the limits! But I think women in both pageants accomplish so much by just making it to the national level. No matter which pageant you compete in, I think we all have a common goal to better the world and inspire others.
TIB - If someone ask you: "Can I borrow 20 bucks?" Your answer?
Kaitlyn For what??
TIB - Which word do you not like to hear at all? Why?
Kaitlyn Impossible. Because sometimes you just have to remember that no matter how long it takes and what people say anything is possible. Miss Oklahoma was my first pageant and there were plenty of times I second-guessed myself. But again, nothing is impossible!
TIB - What song brings lump to your throat every time you hear it?
Kaitlyn Swim by Jacks Mannequin This song has gotten me through some really tough times.
TIB - If I came to your home and looked in fridge, what would I find?
Kaitlyn Normally you’d find snickers ice cream bars for sure! They are my favorite. But while preparing for Miss USA, you’d find lots and lots of chicken and vegetables, and of course water.
TIB - If I gave you an elephant where would you hide it?
Kaitlyn I wouldn’t hide it! I would ride it around Norman, Oklahoma (where I live)!
TIB - Before you meet your prince charming, you have to kiss a lot of frogs. Your comments?
Kaitlyn Prince Charming better be worth the frog kisses!
TIB - So what is your perfect type of guy?
Kaitlyn My perfect guy is someone who is my best friend. I like guys taller than me, and they have to be driven and ambitious! My perfect guy is sweet and protective while also being fun and spontaneous.
TIB - What special message do you have for your fans, and to all people around the world?
Kaitlyn First, it’s weird to me that I even have fans! I appreciate the support and encouragement more than you all will ever know. I hope in some way I touch each of your lives and help you to feel empowered. I truly believe each of us has a purpose in this life and sometimes you just have to have the courage to live the life you were meant to live.
